OpenBritain aims to become a one stop shop facility for all those requiring accessiblity information and assistance and is supported by all national tourism authorities and Regional Development Agencies. With backing from many organisations including The AA, British Hospitality Association, The National Trust, English Heritage and Hudson’s – OpenBritain will develop a wide range of service and information facilities aimed to provide as much reliable information as possible with particular emphasis on UK tourism and holidays.
OpenBritain's objectives are to:
Help disabled people travel and book accommodation with access facilities that are suitable for their needs, by providing an easy to use, one stop solution.
Promote the range of suitable quality leisure activities.
Provide a platform for businesses wishing to promote accessible accommodation, travel, attractions, retail and leisure and sports facilities to people with disabilities.
Build a UK based travel community for people with disabilities so that they can share their experiences, views, suggestions and advice regarding tourism in the UK.
The OpenBritain
brand will shortly be appearing nationwide to indicate that facilities exist within that establishment for those with access requirements – this will initially cover Hotels, Bed and Breakfast, Caravan and Camping Sites, Attractions and, eventually, restaurants.
Over the coming months OpenBritain will add new areas to the site enabling social networking and linking to community activity as well as providing news and views.
Your comments on our new website are welcomed and we very much want input from all age groups on what you would like to see incorporated into OpenBritain for the future. Please do report any broken links or missing information to us via craig.grimes@openbritain.net
Make OpenBritain your Home page

Ever since I became disabled I have travelled quite a lot, mainly in mainland Europe and Latin America. Now I find myself excited to be taking on a new role and a new type of tourism; travelling in the UK.
When considering holidays, travel and tourism many of us think about jetting off to the USA, Spain or an exotic island in the Pacific, but since joining OpenBritain I have begun to discover that there are many travel adventures to be had here in the UK. Who needs to fly for hours and hours when some of the best attractions, events and accommodation in the world are right on your door step?
As the Content Editor for OpenBritain I hope that we can give you the very best information regarding accommodation, attractions and travel for people with disabilities, as well as keep you informed about inclusive events, festivals and things to do in the UK through the OpenBritain Blog.
However, we are a small team and we need your help! Please let me know about what’s going on in your area that has facilities for people with disabilities and we’ll post it on the Blog. If you think you would like to get a bit more involved, why don’t you consider becoming an OpenBritain Blogger? You can review things to do in your city or region such as restaurants, pubs, museums and trails. Whatever you have to say, drop me a line on craig.grimes@openbritain.net I’m always happy to hear from our readers!
