Scotland welcomes a wide variety of visitors: some climb mountains; some go for walks, some go cycling, some play golf, and others relax by the sea, in a pub, in a cottage - that is a personal choice. The tourism industry is adept at discerning and catering for this wide range of choices. However, we tend to categorise disability as something different and, around that, there is a set of preconceptions that shields it from the market view.
Scotland is working in partnership with disability charities, industry groups and the 2014 team to ensure that Scotland is ready. A disability, in reality, is just a different level of ability. Training and information must be in place and VisitScotland is working hard to ensure this is a step change.
At the heart of VisitScotland’s Accessible Tourism Project is the desire to ensure that Scotland is the most accessible destination in Europe. It’s a tough challenge, but one we are ready for.
